What are welded constructions and what options does TOS offer?

Welded structures are assemblies of two or more metal parts permanently joined together by welding. The appropriate welding method is selected
depending on the material type and the application . This allows for durable and precise production of both small components and large welded structures, such as machine frames or load-bearing structures .

At TOS we offer various welding techniques for
realizing high-quality welded constructions:

  • MIG/MAG
welding – ideal for steel and stainless steel, high welding speed, and ideal for
    larger structures.
  • TIG
welding – produces clean, precise welds, primarily used with
    aluminum and thin-walled materials.
  • Robot welding
    – automated welding of welded structures, with high
repeatability and speed in series production.
  • Laser welding
    – extremely precise for thin plates and fine seams.

In addition to welding itself, we provide additional processing such as CNC milling and drilling, as well as surface treatments like shot blasting , powder coating , hot-dip galvanizing , electroplating , or wet painting. We also offer complete assembly of welded structures.

With TOS, you choose an experienced partner who manages the entire process: from design and engineering to finishing and delivery. This ensures welded structures that meet the highest quality standards and optimally match your technical and budgetary needs.

After approval of the prototype, the assignment will begin.

Materials for welding

At TOS, we primarily weld steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Steel is strong and versatile, making it suitable for heavy-duty constructions. Stainless steel is ideal for applications where corrosion resistance and hygiene are important, such as in the food industry. Aluminum is often chosen for lightweight construction in transport and mechanical engineering.

We apply the appropriate welding process for each material, such as MIG, TIG, or laser welding. Furthermore, robotic welding allows us to efficiently produce larger series with consistent quality.

Materiaal Properties Strength Corrosion resistance Applications
Steel
Strong, versatile, affordable
High
Moderate – depending on finish
Machine frames, constructions, heavy loads
RVS (304/316)
Corrosion resistant, wear resistant
High
Excellent against corrosion and wear
Food industry, maritime, chemical
Aluminium
Lightweight, good weldability
Medium – good
Good, but lower than stainless steel
Transport, sheet metal, mechanical engineering

Advantages and disadvantages of welding

How we work on a welding construction project

At TOS – Technical Outsource Solutions, we create high-quality welded structures using professional metal welding. From small components to large machine frames, we manage the entire process, from design and prototyping to series production and finishing. With our expertise, modern welding techniques, and strict quality controls, we guarantee reliable and durable results.

Every welded construction project begins with a thorough intake. Together, we discuss the application, volumes, budget, and delivery times. By communicating clearly from the outset, we ensure the right welding techniques and materials are selected. This prevents delays and guarantees that the welded construction meets both the technical requirements and the customer’s expectations.

At TOS, we advise clients based on the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principle. This means we optimize the design for efficient production of welded structures. We also consider the right choice of materials, such as steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. Based on strength, corrosion resistance, and weight, we determine which alloy and welding process will deliver the best results for durable metal welding.

After the intake and DFM consultation, the client receives a clear quote. This quote details the costs for design, production, and any post-processing. We also create a schedule detailing all the project steps. This provides transparency regarding price and lead time, so the client knows exactly what to expect when realizing their welded structures.

A key aspect of metal welding is selecting the right welding method. Depending on the material and application, we choose MIG/MAG, TIG, robotic welding, or laser welding. Our engineers ensure that the chosen method matches the desired quality and production speed. This allows both small and large welded structures to be produced efficiently and with the required precision.
Before serial production begins, we create prototypes or test pieces of the welded structure. This provides insight into dimensions, weld seams, and overall quality. Any improvements can be implemented immediately. Prototyping is particularly valuable for complex welded structures where multiple materials or special tolerances meet, preventing surprises during production.
During First Article Inspection (FAI), we perform test welds. This step is crucial for verifying the selected settings, welding sequence, and tolerances. Any deviations are corrected immediately. This ensures that the final series of welded structures meets all quality standards and that the metal welding can be performed reliably and reproducibly.
After approval of the test welds, we begin serial production. This involves fabricating the welded structures according to the drawing and specifications. Depending on the complexity, we use manual or robotic welders. The result is consistent quality with an efficient turnaround time. Whether it’s small series or large quantities, TOS always delivers high-quality welding.

In addition to welding itself, we offer extensive post-processing options. CNC milling , drilling, or tapping ensure a perfect fit and dimensional accuracy. For added protection and appearance, welded structures can be surface treated with powder coating , galvanizing , or electroplating . This ensures that the welded products meet the highest standards not only functionally but also visually.

All welded structures produced by TOS undergo strict quality control . We perform both visual and dimensional inspections and, if desired, provide certificates and reports. This guarantees that the welded joints comply with international standards. Quality is crucial in metal welding, and our inspections ensure customers receive reliable and durable products.

Finally, we also handle the assembly of composite products, including customer-specific packaging. Thanks to our logistics solutions, such as inventory management and customs clearance, we can deliver worldwide. This allows us to offer customers a complete solution: from welding individual components to complete welded assemblies delivered to the customer ready for use.
